Sainsbury’s latest supermarket shopping rules make changes to reduce long lines


One of the UK’s largest supermarkets is changing its rules as the coronavirus lockout restrictions are relaxed.Sainsbury’s is trying to improve the customer shopping experience and reduce long lines.

These rule changes follow new directions given by the government.

After months of closure, fresh produce counters have reopened in Sainsburys, allowing buyers to return to buy deli meats and freshly sliced ​​meat in stores.

In addition to this, opening hours have been extended to all levels, giving customers more choice as to when to go to the store, which hopefully reduces the length of the queues.

Sainsbury general manager Simon Roberts said restrictions have been lifted on the purchase of several items in stores.

He said: “We have kept this under review as the availability of key items has improved and I am happy to tell you that we have now lifted purchase restrictions on all products.

“The only exception to this is pain relievers which are legally limited to two packs per person. ”

Roberts says food counters were closed at the start of the pandemic, but pizza counters have now reopened in some stores.

Some self-service self-service food stalls have also reopened.

In addition to these changes, there are also changes in online shopping.

Mr. Roberts said, “More customers than ever choose to use our home delivery service and click and collect when they buy from us.

“To help more people access these services, we have worked hard to increase the number of our home deliveries and click and collect the available slots.

“We have now almost doubled this service to more than 650,000 orders per week and, as a result, more of our existing customers now have access to slots. “

Sainsbury’s on its latest changes

  • To reduce waiting times inside and outside our stores, we have extended many of our hours of operation.
  • Customers are now welcome to shop with us anytime during store hours, but the NHS and caregivers will still have priority entry from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and older, vulnerable, and disabled people will always have priority entry from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
  • We launched a volunteer card to make it easy for people to shop for others in store.
  • We have also rolled out new disinfection stations for customers in our supermarkets so that customers can disinfect their hands, baskets and carts at the front of our stores. This in addition to our colleagues who regularly disinfect all our baskets and carts before use.
  • We installed plexiglass security screens in our gas station stores and extended our hours of operation in many convenience stores to 10 p.m. or 11 p.m. You can check the last hours of operation in your area before shopping.
