Rey Mysterio et Dominik.

As Dave Meltzer reported, Rey Mysterio is currently working without a contract with WWE as his contract has officially expired.

Rey Mysterio signed a contract in September 2018, and although it is now complete, the WWE veteran will continue to work for the company.

No further updates were provided on whether Rey Mysterio had signed a contract extension or not.

Status and future of Rey Mysterio at WWE

WWE is preparing for Dominik Mysterio’s market debut and this could be one of the main reasons why Mysterio continued to work for the company despite the end of his contract.

Rey Mysterio and his son are currently involved in a heated feud with Seth Rollins who has had his gang of disciples. It all started when Seth Rollins injured Rey Mysterio’s eye with a barbaric steel attack. Mysterio recently returned to WWE TV but he was not alone as Dominik shared the same desire for revenge as his legendary father.

As we reported earlier, Dominik and Rey Mysterio were originally scheduled to attend RAW last week. However, due to the spike in COVID-19 cases in WWE, the decision was made to replace their segment with prerecorded video from their home.

The plan currently appears to be a singles match between Rey Mysterio and Seth Rollins at Extreme Rules. The storyline is expected to be extended further, which could lead to Dominik’s much anticipated debut in the ring.

It’s a known fact that Rey Mysterio wants to fight alongside his son before he retires from professional wrestling and, that day, when father and son share the same ring together in a match – n is not that far. SummerSlam seems to be the perfect PPV for booking the impending debut, but it will be interesting to see how WWE gets there.

Rey Mysterio, as it stands, is no longer under contract with WWE but should complete his angle with Rollins and Dominik before eventually ending the business.

There is also a chance that he will re-sign but we haven’t heard anything about it. Stay tuned as we will have more updates on the future of Rey Mysterio at WWE.
