An armed man seized a bus and took around 20 people hostage in northwestern Ukraine on Tuesday, Ukrainian police said.
Police cordoned off the center of Lutsk, a town 400 kilometers west of Kiev. The assailant is armed and carries explosives, they said in a statement on Facebook.
The police try to make contact with the man. They have already identified him and said he expressed his frustration with the “Ukrainian system” on his social media pages.

Ukrainian media reported that gunshots could be heard at the scene. It was not immediately clear if anyone had been injured.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said the assailant took control of the bus at 9.25am local time (7.25am GMT).

“Shots have been heard, the bus is damaged,” Zelenskiy said in a statement on Facebook, adding that steps were being taken to resolve the situation without causing any casualties.
