Paul Pogba says four of his Man Utd teammates “pushed him” to improve this season after their performances.

The World Cup winner had an exciting relationship with Bruno Fernandes when football returned last month and made a significant contribution to United’s 17 game undefeated game in all competitions.

Before that, Pogba had a hard time starting this season for Man Utd – who welcome Southampton Monday evening – with an injury that excluded him for most of the season with only nine Premier League starts under his name.

Fred, Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic and Andreas Pereira all took turns in place of Pogba during most of his absence and he thanked them for helping him improve.

Pogba said in Man Utd’s official program for the day: “What Fred, Scott, Nemanja and even Andreas, who is not a central midfielder, did [is] they played everything and they played well and helped us win games. When I saw this, I was very happy and they pushed me to get better and better.

“We are not there yet but we are on our way and if we continue to do what we are doing now, I think there is nothing that can prevent us from getting where we should be.”
