Pep Guardiola admitted he was disappointed that his Manchester City players had not capitalized on his successful prediction of Mikel Arteta’s tactics in the FA Cup semifinals.

City were swept away by Arsenal in a surprise 2-0 victory for the Gunners, with former Guardiola number 2 in charge in the opposing dugout.

Guardiola insists he knew Arteta would continue to play five at the back after their shock win over Liverpool and was frustrated to see his players underperform.

He said BT Sport: “We didn’t play well. The only regret is not to lose the game – it can happen – but it is that we did not play the first half like we play the second.

“We didn’t play well and one day when you had to do it, we didn’t.

“We started low and without the way you should play.

“We are always ready several times, but today we were not.

“I knew they were playing five at the back and with high pressure. They defended well.

“It happened against Liverpool too, we knew that. But we were not good. We have to play well to pass.

“Now we have two weeks, so we want to play the final [of the Champions League]. We want to be in rhythm.

“This is the last opportunity we have to cross [to win another trophy]. ‘

Arsenal will now face Chelsea or Manchester United in the FA Cup final on May 18.

Frank Lampard’s men and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team face off at Old Trafford on Sunday evening.
