Pedro Munhoz is the latest withdrawal from the UFC’s Fight Island series after a positive test for COVID-19, sources told MMA Fighting following a report by MMA Fusion.
Munhoz was to co-host the second UFC show on the island of Yas on July 15, welcoming former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar to the bantamweight division. It is still unknown if the UFC will try to find a new opponent for “The Answer” on the same map.
Munhoz (18-4, 1 without competition) was looking to get back on track after losing a decision to Aljamain Sterling in June 2019. The 135-pound Brazilian has won 7-2 in his last nine banner fights of the UFC, including victories over Cody Garbrandt and Bryan Caraway.
Edgar (23-8-1) decided to cut another 10 pounds to go on to bantamweight after the knockout losses to Max Holloway and “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung last year. Edgar has not won a fight since April 2018.
The Fight Night card will be titled by the featherweights Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige. The UFC has yet to announce which fight will now co-star.
