BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Recognizing that the global COVID-19 pandemic continues to present significant challenges to our campuses and communities, the Patriot League Council of Presidents announces the following decisions regarding the Patriot League competition:

  • Patriot League teams will not compete in the fall (championship and non-championship);
  • Decisions regarding winter and spring sports competitions will be made at a later date; and,
  • The possibility of practicing physical conditioning, strength training and other opportunities to practice in all sports will be authorized provided that the health and safety conditions support these activities.

Because the United States Military Academy and the United States Naval Academy are unique in their environments and missions in higher education, the Council of Presidents agrees that academies can continue to seize the competitive opportunities deemed appropriated by their respective superintendents.

The college track and field experience in all of the Patriot League institutions is invaluable in fulfilling our educational and development missions, and the League recognizes that any degree of non-competition this fall is deeply disappointing for our student-athletes, coaches and fans. However, the health and safety of our campuses and communities must be our top priority.

The League is committed to exploring creative approaches and alternatives to provide future competitive experiences for our student-athletes of fall sports, including the possibility of hosting fall sports competitions and championships in second semester.

Participation in athletics in the institutions of the Patriot League is considered an important element of a balanced education.
