After four months of trying to keep their businesses afloat without income, Ottawa bar and nightclub owners determine what it will take to protect their establishments from COVIDs according to the guidelines in Step 3 and s ‘they will be ready to open on Friday.

For Scott Ruffo, co-owner of Brass Monkey, the decision was quick.

“Our plan is definitely to open this weekend,” said Ruffo in an interview. “We have a staff meeting (Monday) to review the protocols and the precautions we need to take. People can’t wait to get out and we’re glad to have them, that’s for sure. “

At nearly 8,000 square feet, the basement bar on Greenbank Road is one of the city’s largest venues, which means plenty of space for 50 people, the maximum number allowed to congregate indoors as per step 3 guidelines. However, Ruffo plans to mark the floor to show people where they can sit to secure the two meter buffer between each table.
