Ontario Confirms 164 New Cases of COVID Today

Public Health Ontario has confirmed another 164 new COVID cases in the province, further increasing the number of active cases in Ontario.Today and yesterday, the province reported new cases in the 160s, after eight days with a daily number of cases between 102 and 130.

Of today’s new cases, 126 have been reported by just four health units. Ottawa has reported 16 new cases, Peel has reported 48 new cases, Toronto has reported 25 new cases and Windsor-Essex has reported 37 new cases. Ontario’s other 30 health units reported between zero and nine new cases each, for a total of 38 additional cases.

The province’s epidemiological report notes that 76 new cases have been reported in people aged 20 to 39 and another 52 cases reported in people aged 40 to 49.

Ontario has confirmed three other deaths attributed to the coronavirus, including one person between the ages of 60 and 79 and one over the age of 80.

The province has now reported 2,751 deaths from COVID-19, or 7.3% of all cases. Over 30% of reported cases in people over 80 have resulted in death.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 37,604 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic and reported 33,407 of them (88.8 percent) who have recovered.

There are 1,446 active COVID-19 cases in the province, up from 1,398 registered yesterday.

To date, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 628 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region, including 597 in Simcoe County.

On Friday, the health unit posted its biggest increase this month with nine new cases, eight of which were residents of Barrie.

Thirty-six people have died in Simcoe County and Muskoka and the health unit has reported 561 recoveries. The incidence rate for the Simcoe-Muskoka region is 105.6 cases per 100,000 population.

There are 30 active cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County, including three people in hospital, according to the July 17 health unit epidemiological report.
