Olympic skater Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya dies of apparent suicide at age 20


The Australian Olympic Committee has confirmed the death of former world junior pair figure skating champion Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya in Moscow. The 20-year-old fell out of her 6th-floor Moscow apartment window in apparent suicide, police sources told Russian news agencies Interfax and TASS.”The preliminary cause of death is suicide,” said TASS news agency, citing a police source.

Alexandrovskaya coach Andrei Khekalo has confirmed details of his death to AFP. He said she was recently diagnosed with epilepsy and suffered from depression.

Alexandrovskaya was born in Russia but obtained Australian citizenship in 2016 and competed for her adopted country at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics with her skating partner Harley Windsor.
