Meghan and Harry take root in Los Angeles, California, and try to find ways to become financially independent from the royal family. Last month, they signed with a speaking contract called the Harry Walker Agency. The New York-based company represents prestigious clients such as Barack and Michelle Obama, as well as Hillary and Bill Clinton and Oprah Winfrey.

The couple’s decision told commentators that they had truly cut ties from their past royal lives to become stars.Harry had a mental health documentary series with Mrs. Winfrey in the works for a while, while Meghan joined Mrs. Clinton and Mrs. Obama for the UN virtual event, Girl Up Leadership Summit, earlier this week.

As a keynote speaker, Meghan advocated for the empowerment of women and said that women must realize that those in power depend on it and urged young women to tackle gender and race inequalities with “compassion”.

Ms. Obama also touched on gender inequalities in her speech.

She said, “When we give girls the opportunity to learn, we give them the opportunity to reach their potential, build healthier families and contribute to their country and their economy.”

Links between Meghan and Mrs. Obama also go back to 2016, when the First Lady of the time went to Morocco and Liberia to promote gender equality with the Let Girls Learn initiative.

Describing her trip to CNN, Obama said, “While Morocco has made huge strides in education and almost all girls attend primary school, girls in rural areas often live far away. nearest colleges and high schools, so many drop out of school by the time they reach the age of twelve.

“Currently, only 14% of girls in rural Morocco attend secondary school.”

In February 2019, Meghan and Harry also traveled to Morocco, where they gave priority to gender equality.

Kensington Palace told People magazine at the time: “The Duke and Duchess are eagerly awaiting the visit which will highlight the essential roles of girls’ education and youth empowerment in modern Morocco and who shape it. ”

Telegraph royal correspondent Hannah Furness noted at the time how Mrs. Obama and Meghan had made a similar trip.

The refinery29 then examined the similarities between the causes chosen by the Duchess of Sussex and Mrs. Obama.

Writing in February of last year, writer Jenna Milliner-Waddell explained: “The comparison between Meghan and Obama is not only flattering, but it also justifies the recent court split between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Prince William and Kate Middleton. ”

In that year, Mrs. Obama also told Good Housekeeping that she did not want Meghan to feel rushed into her job.

Speaking before Megxit, she said, “The pressure – from yourself and others – can sometimes seem like a lot.

“There are so many opportunities to do good with a platform like this – and I think [Meghan] can maximize its impact for others, as well as its own happiness, if it does something that personally resonates with it. “
