Comparison of Neville’s first three
Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville made a bold statement about the front row of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, saying they were the top three in the Premier League.
A 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on Thursday, thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, extended United’s undefeated streak in all competitions to 19 games and kept the pressure on Leicester City in the quest for a ranking among the first four.
Since the season resumed after a three-month hiatus, the aforementioned pair, with Mason Greenwood, have developed an extremely impressive attacking bond for the Solskjaer team.
In fact, Neville was so impressed that he thinks the United front line is better than Liverpool’s trio Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, as he said in the BBC match of the day:
“I look, at the start of the lockdown, in what areas has United needed to invest to close the gap over Manchester City and Liverpool ?.
“Right away, I thought the center-forward, but these two are now causing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a big problem in that they are, with Greenwood, the top three in the league up there with the top three from Liverpool and City.
“In terms of their ability to swap positions and connect with one another, I can’t think of a better place.”
