Only 36 positive coronavirus tests have been added to Leicester and Leicestershire since yesterday, according to daily figures from the Department for Health and Social Care.In recent days, the count has increased by more than 70 days.

Some 31 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus in the city. In the county, only five positive results were returned.

Residents of Oadby and Wigston – an area of ​​”concern” – received text messages yesterday asking them to take a test to find out whether or not they had symptoms. Only three positive cases have been detected in people living in the region in the 24 hours before 16 hours today.

Elsewhere, Charnwood’s total increased by one case, as did Harborough’s.

Blaby, Hinckley and Bosworth, Melton and North West Leicestershire have no new cases.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said today that two weeks of data will be reviewed on Thursday before a decision is made on whether the local lock should stay in place.

Hancock said more people are being tested in Leicester than anywhere else in the country, largely thanks to its 14 test sites – four permanent centers and ten mobile units.

He told MEPs: “I will not prejudge the decision we will take on Thursday and we will take into account all the data.

“We will not set specific thresholds, we will review all the data. ”

Hancock said “the level and rate of change” will be discussed with local authorities.
