Lennon said last month that he hoped the Old Firm games could be postponed to give bettors as much time as possible to watch the games and present the opportunity on television.
The SPFL chiefs have announced that the first match between Lennon’s team and Steven Gerrard’s team will take place during the eleventh series of matches in mid-October, the second match at Ibrox being written in pencil on January 2, 2021.
When asked if he was encouraged by the opening game programming in terms of potential fan traffic, Lennon said, “Yes, fine.
“Hopefully by September and October we can get permission to bring in the bettors and that would be fantastic because, while it’s great to see football again, it’s just not the same thing without the supporters. ”
Lennon, meanwhile, also took stock of his pursuit of a goalkeeper.
Fraser Forster’s non-engagement at this stage on a return to Parkhead despite an agreement concluded between Celtic and Southampton for a transfer of loan to purchase has forced the manager and his recruiting staff to consider other objectives.
Lennon told Sky Sports, “We are exploring other options. There is an agreement between the two clubs and it has become calm on the side of the players.
“Like everything else, we would like it very much [Forster] back here, but if that’s not going to be the case, we’ll look elsewhere.
“We are considering a number of options on the goalie front, but it’s such an important position.
“Fraser did wonderful things for us last season and there are big gloves to fill, if you want to put it that way. So, ideally, we will try to get an exceptional number 1 again. “
