Neighbors of Madeleine McCann’s suspect fear ‘German Maddie’ may be buried in cellar

Police have been told to search a second housing estate in Germany after Madeleine McCann’s suspect has reportedly reopened a cellar there. This week, police carried out a two-day search of an address in Hanover where Christian Brueckner allegedly stayed in a hut with a cellar around 2010.

Now the people of Braunschweig want a similar search for a small garden house where he lived from 2013 to 2016.

They say he lifted planks to access a 20-foot cellar and fear he hid the body of a missing child known as “German Maddie”.

Brueckner, 43, was questioned but was never charged after Inga Gehricke, five, disappeared in 2015 near her home in Braunschweig. Her current tenant, Sabina Sellag, a tour guide, is said to be “so panicked” that she slept outside.

Her mate Thoma Tager said she was “terrified” to live in the small house near a train track, adding: “She begged the police to come with search dogs. She said to me: “I am afraid to sleep on a corpse”. ”

Ms Sellag, in her 30s, previously said she was “disappointed” that the police did not search.

A neighbor, who did not wish to be named, said this evening: “She is convinced that Inga is there. This cellar was built by a former tenant.

“Brueckner took off the floor and jumped in. There was a lot of trash inside and he added. The new tenant is in such a panic.

“She spent a week sleeping outside. It is strange that there is a cellar because they are prohibited in the gardens. He was a petty criminal.

Brueckner’s owner in the Private Gardens also denied that the suspect built the cellar – but another neighbor claims Brueckner worked for two months on its construction.

Manfred Richter, 80, said: “He searched the floor of the house. He took stones and dirt in his hand and threw them forward.

“He put wooden planks over the hole. This job got him into trouble with the authorities.

His son Karsten said he alerted the police two months ago that Brueckner was the owner of the Braunschweig plot, adding: “I thought the next day there would be a huge police presence, but no one came.

Mr Richter’s sister, Helga Neu, who owns land next to the site that Brueckner once owned, said: ‘I wouldn’t mind if the police came, who knows he might have been hiding something in the cellar.

New main suspect of Madeleine McCann

Police at the Hanover search site, an hour’s drive away, did not say what was found.

Maddie was three years old when she disappeared while on vacation in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007. Brueckner was believed to be in the area at the time.

He is in prison for rape and drug offenses.
