“My Future” by Billie Eilish Review

It was supposed to be Billie Eilish’s year; she had several Grammy wins under her belt and a huge arena tour on the books. But pandemics don’t discriminate, as the world has closed and millions of people have retreated to their homes, so has it. “My Future” is the first song Eilish wrote in quarantine, and she finds the young pop star in a contemplative free space. She has already proven herself a mistress of the delicate ballad, but her latest is a lot more upbeat than her latest single. “Can’t you hear me? I’m not coming home, ”she whispers. ” Do you understand? I changed my plans / Because I’m in love with my future. She doesn’t sing to any former lover – she speaks to herself. Loneliness was a cause for desperation on “when the party is over”: “Calm when I come home and am alone / I could lie, say I like it like that. But now, almost two years later, she’s trying to find happiness and take it for herself. FINNEAS ‘production reflects this emotional breakthrough; The mellow electric piano gives way to the drums and the tiny guitar flourishes as Billie spreads her wings, lifted by lush cooing. She doesn’t know where she’s going, but again neither of us: “I’m in love, but not with anyone here / I’ll see you in a few years.” “
