Mikel Arteta’s massive reality test despite two brilliant wins

Arsenal have had exciting results in their last two games. Despite a 2-1 loss to Tottenham previously, the Gunners rose to beat league champions Liverpool 2-1 and followed it up with a 2-0 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final.Those wins were only days apart and they came as a serious boost to the morale of the Gunners who have struggled all season.

It is fitting that fans and club players be blown away with such a stunning run of results, however, Mikel Arteta was not blown away and the Spaniard told his players to maintain that level of performance, and consistently because It doesn’t make sense to do it in just two games.

He reminded players that the league is a marathon and they need to maintain that level of performance for ten months and not celebrate after just one week of good performance.

On Monday, he said, as quoted by the Mail: “Obviously it’s a marathon, it’s a long term thing that has to be played and you have to do it consistently for 10 months.

“It’s not good enough to do it for a week, so we didn’t do anything, we just won two games which give us a big advantage in the league and the feeling that if we all do our best we can beat any team but now we have to be consistent and do it every three days.
