Midnight Mania! Georges St. Pierre opens up as an important outsider to Khabib Nurmagomedov

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

There is undoubtedly no fighter more decorated than Georges St. Pierre. The Canadian martial artist led the welterweight division for most of the decade, racking up an absurd number of title defenses in the process, winning largely effortlessly. Then, he retired for a few years, returned to a weight class and dethroned Michael Bisping to win another world title!

It was amazing work, but odds makers don’t believe it likely to do it again. Dana White recently commented that he would be open to Khabib Nurmagomedov fighter “GSP” for his 30th professional fight – assuming he is able to overtake Justin Gaethje on October 24. Previously, Saint-Pierre and Khabib have expressed major interest in the game, but White was the opposition.

With this major hurdle cleared, the fight looks much more likely, resulting in increased betting interest. As such, SportsBetting.ag posted opening odds for the game, establishing Nurmagomedov as the 2-1 favorite at -200. Meanwhile, Saint-Pierre is a significant – but not overwhelming – outsider with +170.

While historically Saint-Pierre is hardly ever the underdog, it’s not hard to see why this fight would be an exception. Khabib is undefeated after all, a dominant champion at the height of his powers. Alternatively, Saint-Pierre is 39 and will likely have spent more than three years on the sidelines by the time this fight materializes … and it always materializes.
