Porcello was originally scheduled to start in an intrasquad game on Wednesday at Citi Field, but he was scratched after the Mets heard news of Marcus Stroman’s muscle tear in his calf. Instead, Porcello has kicked off a side session and will kick off another on Friday in preparation for Sunday’s start.
Stroman wasn’t the only pitcher to land on the injured list on Wednesday as Robert Gsellman joined him there with right tricep tension. The reliever pitched towards a standing receiver on Tuesday, but he doesn’t have a schedule for a comeback yet.
“He’s progressing again,” manager Luis Rojas said. “There is a plan to ramp him up, but it’s something that we will continue to re-evaluate on a day-to-day basis with him.
Wilson Ramos was in his first intrasquad game on Wednesday since returning to camp after a three-day absence to deal with personal matters. The receiver served as DH and went 0 for 2.
Pete Alonso got cut off by a Franklyn Kilome throw to the helmet in the Mets intrasquad game, but shook it and stayed.
