McAvennie insists Bain isn’t good enough for first place

Frank McAvennie has claimed Celtic players would not want Scott Bain as their number one goalie next season despite Scott Brown’s comments.

Addressed exclusively to Football insider Correspondent Dylan Childs, the centennial squad member insisted he would only be confident in Bain, 28, who would place 10 in a row as the club’s number two.

The Hoops have failed to replace Fraser Forster who has so far rejected a return to Parkhead despite a very successful loan spell last season.

Bain played against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday and was responsible for the third goal in a 4-0 loss at Parc des Princes.

Club captain Scott Brown has said the team would be happy for Bain to be their number one this season, but McAvennie is not convinced.

“I like Scott Bain as a goalie, but not for the whole season,” he said Football insider.

“He wouldn’t be my choice for the 10. I would be convinced he would be number two at the club.

“He’s likely to throw a couple, but he’s definitely a good goalie. Lennon wants someone in charge to come out of his box to retrieve the ball.

“I heard Scott Brown defend him and say he would be happy with Scott Bain as number one. No, you wouldn’t.

“Fraser came and lifted the whole team. You need a big presence there. Defenders will make mistakes and you will need someone to rely on in great times.

“Bain is my number two but not my number one.

In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALed that the door has been opened on Hoops signing West Ham at a rock bottom price.
