Matt Reeves and Terence Winter Team for the Batman spin-off series on HBO Max

HBO Max shot the Bat-Signal at full power for a serial engagement in a drama set in the Gotham Police Department of Matt Reeves and Terrence Winter.

Installed in the universe that Reeves creates for his film THE BATMAN, the untitled series is intended to serve as a springboard for a new Batman universe on several platforms. Details on the series are scarce at the moment, though the project is said to be based on a review of the anatomy of corruption movie in Gotham City. It is also the first announced as part of Reeves’ new global agreement with Warner Bros. Television Group. (via Variety)

“This is an incredible opportunity, not only to broaden the world view that I create in the film, but to explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a long format can afford – and to work with it. ‘incredible the talented Terence Winter, who has written with insight and power on the worlds of crime and corruption, is an absolute dream’, It Reeves.

Winter will write and produce the series. Meanwhile, Reeves will produce through his studio 6th & Idaho alongside Daniel Pipski and Adam Kassan. Dylan Clark will also be executive producer with 6th & Idaho’s Rafi Crohn, who is expected to co-produce.

“We are fortunate to have such great partners to Matt, Dylan and Terry and unprecedented access to a multitude of PIs from our partners in Warner Bros. and DC “, said Sarah Aubrey, responsible for original content for HBO Max.

As you probably know, Reeves is currently directing and producing THE BATMAN, which should be released in October 2021. Other films directed by Reeves include CLOVERFIELD, LET ME IN, DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and WAR POUR LA PLANÈTE DES APES. As for Winter, he previously worked as a screenwriter, executive producer and director on a small show that you may have heard of for HBO called THE SOPRANOS. Winter had been nominated for 12 Emmy Awards for his work on the mafia drama, winning four. He then concentrated his efforts on the creation of the vintage drama series BOARDWALK EMPIRE for HBO, in addition to co-creating the VINYL of HBO. He also served as a showrunner for the two shows. Oh, and if you dug LE LOUP DE WALLSTREET by Martin Scorsese, it was Winter who wrote the screenplay for this bad boy.

“Our collaboration with Warner Bros. and DC allows us to build and develop fan connections across these powerful brands for years to come, ”said Kevin Reilly, HBO Max content director and president of TNT, TBS and truTV. ” It’s Batman like most audiences have never seen it before and we know fans will want to spend more time in this new world inspired by the film. ”

Holy main opportunity, Batman! Have you ever read the CD Gotham Central comic book series? Created by Greg Rucka (THE OLD GUARD), Ed Brubaker and Michael Lark, Gotham Central presents a hard look at the officers working for the Gotham City Police Department and the difficulties they encounter when working in Gotham City and alongside the Batman. Exchanging superhero shenanigans for a crime thriller approach, the series follows detectives Marcus Driver, Romy Chandler, Renee Montoya, Crispus Allen and Josephine “Josie Mac” MacDonald, as well as their superiors, Commissioner Michael Akins, the Captain Margaret “Maggie” Sawyer and Lieutenant Ron Probson.

My educated guess is that everything Reeves and Winter are planning will bear a strong resemblance to Gotham Central. To be clear, I say this in the hope and without any internal knowledge of the upcoming project. I think that Gotham Central is one of the unsung DC heroes in his publishing line, and I would like to see something like that land on HBO Max.
