Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified three defenders in his search for a central defender for Harry Maguire.

The Red Devils spent £ 80 million on Maguire last summer and the former Leicester City man improved United’s defense to the point where he was named club captain.

Solskjaer’s team has jumped since the arrival of Bruno Fernandes in January and for the first time since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, it appears that the team needs minimal changes rather than a great overhaul.

A central defender to play alongside Maguire is considered one of these changes and Solskjaer has scoured the market for a fast physical defender to team up with the British ace.

ESPN says Solskjaer has a three-man wishlist made up of Bournemouth ace Nathan Ake, Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings and AC Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli.

Solskjaer appeared to pick up Ake after Saturday’s 5-2 victory over Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

After beating his fists with Ake, Solskjaer said to the 25-year-old: “Good luck,”

Ake replied, “Long live, thank you,” before Solskjaer appeared to follow up: “We need a left center back, so keep going.”

The Dutchman has two years to execute his deal on the south coast, but the Cherries are facing relegation and will likely be sold in the event of a drop.

The same can be said of Mings, who played alongside Ake in Bournemouth before moving to Birmingham.

United will face Villa on Thursday, where Solskjaer will be able to analyze Mings firsthand to see if it fits the club well.

Romagnoli has long been linked to a move to Old Trafford and the Italian international would likely cost the bulk of the three players if Solskjaer opted for a move for the Italian.

Ralf Rangnick is expected to take over at the San Siro at the end of this season and it is unlikely that he will sanction Romagnoli’s departure unless it is for exorbitant costs.
