Pogba has yet to live up to expectations after returning to Old Trafford, but Alvarez, who left United in September of last year, insists it has nothing to do with his talent, but that ‘it’s more about learning to cope with the pressure on your shoulders.
The World Cup winner has been in good shape since he recently pulled out of the United States after an injury and now looks set to stay at the club for at least one more season, having initially voiced the wish for a new challenge last summer.
This came in the midst of ties to Real Madrid, where Alvarez started his career as a young goalkeeper, and former coach David de Gea thinks Pogba would be an ideal fit at the Bernabeu.
“I know he is a footballer with all the talent to play in any club in the world. Physically, he’s incredibly talented, ”Alvarez told AS.
“Where he has problems is the area of requirements that accompany the signing of a star. At United, he was burdened with the responsibility and pressure of being a multi-million euro signatory. He was impatient to show his level.
“I stayed with him after training and did extra work. I can tell you that he has incredible skill and talent and is incredibly athletic.
“His success depends on his head. He must face challenges and be more self-critical. It could be a great signing for Madrid. “
