Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho is reportedly the Red Devils’ main transfer target, while the club have also been linked with Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish and off-contract center-half Jan Vertonghen, among others.
The role of United’s first-choice goalkeeper has also been the subject of discussion, with David de Gea coming under pressure this season following a series of notorious mistakes.
And a crucial role of the scouting post advertised by the club will be to focus on finding talented goalkeepers, according to the club’s website.
The post states that the purpose of the role is “to identify players who demonstrate potential to play for the first team”.
One of the main functions of the role will be to provide a “comprehensive performance analysis service with a particular focus on goalkeepers”.
United already have one of England’s most promising young goalkeepers on their books, Dean Henderson having enjoyed an impressive season on loan at Sheffield United.
However, the 23-year-old won’t want to be a bench driver for De Gea and has become a target for Chelsea, while the Blades are also keen to make his stay with them permanent.
De Gea has been criticized after his mistakes in United’s FA Cup semi-final loss to Chelsea, while club legend Roy Keane said he “allegedly punched” the keeper after a mistake in preparing for Tottenham’s goal in a 1- 1 draw between the sides last month.
Reports have suggested United could make a bold move for Atletico Madrid striker Jan Oblak – who is also reportedly on Chelsea’s radar.
United signed 20-year-old Nathan Bishop in January, with the promising goalkeeper signing a two-year contract.
Lee Grant is also in their books and has made a Europa League appearance this season.
Sergio Romero, who spent several seasons as De Gea’s understudy, is linked with an exit, and Leeds are said to be keen on him.
Keane, meanwhile, told United they had to fire De Gea if they wanted to return to the top of English and European football.
“I’ve never been a huge fan of him,” Keane told Sky Sports.
“He’s making way too many mistakes, big mistakes that cost United big points.
