United showed in the blink of an eye that they are capable of upsetting the elite with several wins over Manchester City and a draw against Liverpool.
Careful recruiting over the past 12 months has helped players like Bruno Fernandes and Aaron Wan Bissaka add quality in attack and defense.
But Solskjaer will know that his team still needs reinforcements to regain the success of yesteryear.
And the Norwegian has identified four players in key positions he wants to add.

Jadon Sancho
The Borussia Dortmund star has long been a target for United after several years of success in Germany.
Sancho left City in search of more playing time and has since thrived with the winger perfectly suited to United’s transfer policy given he is young and native.
Dortmund want £ 100million for Sancho, but United are only ready to pay £ 80million which means a compromise has yet to be reached.

Kalidou Koulibaly
United spent a lot on Harry Maguire last summer and could part with a lot of money again for a center-back.
The Napoli ace could finally be on the move in the coming months after years of speculation.
Koulibaly is recognized as one of the best defenders in the game and is in his prime at 29.
The Serie A club want around £ 70million for the Senegal international who spent six years at Napoli.

Jack Grealish
The childhood fan of Aston Villa played a crucial role in helping his side maintain their Premier League status but could now be on the move.
Grealish has yet to receive international recognition, but he is highly rated and scored an excellent goal at Old Trafford earlier this season.
His creative flair would be welcome at United, but Villa wants around £ 60million for their star man – a fee the Red Devils are willing to pay.
Grealish set a high-flying record for being the foulest player in a season.

Declan Rice
The West Ham star was linked with a stint at Old Trafford last season but has remained at London Stadium.
Rice is the Hammers’ precious asset and has been a rare bright light in a difficult season.
The Englishman is able to play in midfield as well as in defense, which further increases his appeal.
West Ham want around £ 50million for the 21-year-old who United could see as an alternative to Jude Bellingham.
