Lenkov added in a statement to him THR: “Now is the time to listen and I am listening. It’s hard to hear that the work environment I led was not the work environment that my colleagues deserved, and for that I am deeply sorry. I accept responsibility for what I hear and I am determined to do the work necessary to do better and be better. ”
Sources say Lenkov was the subject of at least three complaints alleging that he had been manipulative and abusive during Hawaii Five-010 seasons and now MacGyver (the latter entering its fifth season in the fall). He is said to have a “boys’ club” of favored male employees who regularly meet, smoke cigars, and inappropriately judge the appearance of women in Hawaii. Others allege that he responded to special requests for working hours from male actors without offering the same consideration to actresses Hawaii Five-0. The series, a restart of the emblematic procedure, concluded its race in April.
“It was a difficult place to be a woman on this set,” said a source about the former Oahu group. Hawaii Five-0.
Behind the scenes, sources say Lenkov would speak regularly to writers – especially women and people of color. In one incident, he allegedly mocked a disabled fan and, after a writer objected to her behavior, attempted to fire her.
“He is neither racist, sexist, nor classist – that’s it,” says an insider. “It is anti-woman, anti-POC, anti-gay and everything you expect. But he would also torture straight white men if he wanted to. ”
Lenkov is one of the best CBS showrunners, after successfully restarting Hawaii Five-0 in a global unionized hit and successfully relaunched proceedings Magnum PI and MacGyver. The last two series should be broadcast back to back on Fridays in the fall, as Lenkov is one of a handful of showrunners to control a night of programming.
Hawaii Five-0 made headlines in July 2017 when stars of the original series Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park made the shocking decision to leave the CBS drama after filming its first 168 episodes. The two actors, who had appeared in the seven seasons as regulars on the series, demanded pay equity with co-stars Alex O’Loughlin and Scott Caan. CBS and CBS Television Studios could not get along with the two stars. Sources at the time noted that the duo’s offering was lower than that of O’Loughlin and Caan, both of whom had a rich cut from the series’ lucrative backend.
Lenkov is the last CBS showrunner to be dismissed as the media titan continues to solve culture issues in the company. Brad Kern, the former showrunner of NCIS: New Orleans, was abandoned by CBS TV Studios after several sources on the series alleged that they had unfairly harassed and penalized women and made race-insensitive statements. CBS comedy Fam also let showrunner Bob Kushell go after discovering that he used “inappropriate language” on the set of the 2018 mid-season show. Star Trek: discovery also fired showrunners Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts for alleged abusive behavior and budget overruns. CBS Studios executive Vinnie Favale was put on leave in 2018 after allegations of misconduct.
CBS also fired 60 minutes Executive producer and former news division chief Jeff Fager after sending a threatening text message to a CBS reporter covering the allegations of sexual misconduct against him. In 2017, the network dropped CBS this morning welcoming Charlie Rose amid allegations of sexual harassment. CBS was also shaken by the departure of CEO Leslie Moonves, which took place a month after the New Yorker published allegations of harassment and abuse by the most senior executive.
