Liverpool woman shot dead by police on street

A woman was shot dead by police on a street.

Officers were called at 1:50 p.m. BST on Cairns Street in Toxteth, Liverpool, to report a woman armed with a knife.

The woman suffered an upper body injury and was taken to hospital for treatment, but her condition is unknown.

Merseyside police said the shooting had been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct. North Hill Street remains closed.

Ambulance Nord-Ouest confirmed that a danger zone intervention team, a rapid intervention vehicle, an ambulance, an advanced paramedic and a tactical commander had been sent to the scene.
