Live updates from Welwyn Garden City as an air ambulance responds to a major “police incident” near the station


a major police incident is currently underway near Welwyn Garden City station.Trains are not currently stopping at the station due to the incident this afternoon (Sunday July 12).

Thameslink and Great Northern have confirmed that services that generally end at Welwyn Garden City will begin at Hatfield instead.

The first change reported was the 1:55 p.m. service from Cambridge, which was to call the station around 3:00 p.m.

Railway operators confirmed that police were attending an incident by tweeting an update at 2:55 p.m.

According to witnesses, an air ambulance was on the scene as well as armed officers.

Great Northern said: “Due to the police handling an incident near the Welwyn Garden City railway, services crossing the station will operate non-stop.

“Trains will not be able to call Welywn Garden City until further notice. This means that if you are traveling to or from this station, your journey will take longer and you will have to use road transport for part of your journey. ”

Hertfordshire Constabulary and the British Transport Police were approached for more information.
