Lauren Stephens and Julien Bernard win Virtual Tour de France Stage 2 – Tour de France 2020 – Cycling


Julien Bernard of Trek Segaredo won stage 2 of the Men’s Virtual Tour of France, while Lauren Stephens of Tibco-Silicon Valley Bank won the second stage of women.

Bernard won a late victory after passing Michael Woods of EF and Freddy Ovett of the Start-Up Nation of Israel, the French runner Bernard having won using a late power-up.


Ciccone wins Challenge of Stars climbers event

NTT retains the lead in the general classification and will have the yellow jersey for the third stage, which will take place next weekend. The King of the Mountains competition is led by Israel Start-Up Nation.

The men’s and women’s events took place on a 29.5 km course with two uphill sections.

There was also a late drama in the women’s section, the American runner Stephens recovering from his return on the main climb of the course. Joscelin Lowden of the Drops team came in second, Ceratizit-WNT Pro Cycling Team occupying the last podium.

Four stages of the virtual tour remain, Tibco-Silicon Valley Bank taking the leader’s jersey for the moment, while Canyon-SRAM has the green jersey.
