Jurgen Klopp is expected to drop Liverpool’s transfer to Bayern Munich and Spain midfielder Thiago, according to Reds legend Steve Nicol.

Thiago, 29, has been strongly linked to a move to Anfield, Bayern confirming that he could leave the German giants this summer.

The Spaniard spent seven years at the Allianz Arena, played more than 200 games and helped the club win seven Bundesliga titles.

Thiago would plan to move on this summer and find a new challenge at another club, with Liverpool apparently leading the way to get his signature.

But the Reds hero Nicol has warned his former club against signing Thiago, saying the Spanish international will not strengthen Klopp’s winning team.

“The guy is a quality player, there’s no question about it,” Nicol told ESPN.

“He can pass the ball and whoever thinks that Liverpool could perhaps improve is to have this midfielder, much like Xabi Alonso, to choose the players.

“But the truth is that it would mean that you change your style a bit. So I wonder if it’s a chance to recruit a great player and keep the team strong, because if there is one thing in Liverpool, it’s its competition in the middle of the park.

“Yes, he’s a great player, but I’m not sure he improves the team.

“Are you sure you want to touch something that isn’t broken?” Liverpool is very dynamic and Thiago is no longer an old-fashioned footballer.

“He’s a great player and you need a team, but does he push the starting XI? I do not think so.

When asked where Klopp should look to strengthen his team this summer, the former Liverpool star added, “Can he find someone else alongside Virgil van Dijk?

“Joe Gomez has been great, but that may be his limit. If I were to be picky and greedy, I would like to have another Van Dijk next to Van Dijk.
