Johnny Depp accused his ex-wife Amber Heard of cutting his finger while his defamation lawsuit against the Sun newspaper continues.
The actor told the High Court that 34-year-old Mrs. Heard threw a bottle of vodka at her, which cut her upper finger and “crushed the bones.”
She denies having injured her finger.
Depp, 57, sues for defamation of an article in the Sun calling him a “drummer woman” – but the newspaper maintains the story was accurate.
Journalist Dan Wootton’s April 2018 play was about the cast of Mr. Depp in the film franchise Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Counsel for Mr. Depp Said The Article Made “Most Serious Defamatory Allegations”, Accusing Her of Committing Serious Assault Against Ms. Heard and “Injuring So Serious Injury” that she feared for her life ”.
On the third day of the London High Court proceedings, Sasha Wass QC, representing the publisher of the Sun News Group Newspapers, said that Ms. Heard had been subjected to a “three-day trial” during which Mr. Depp had “completely destroyed” the house where they were staying. during drug-fed rabies.
Wass said Depp accused the actress of having relationships with her “main man” while the couple were in Australia where he was filming one of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchises in March 2015. He then threw Mrs. Heard against a ping pong. table and pushed her against a refrigerator, said Ms. Wass.
Mr. Depp denied the charge, adding, “After the incident where Ms. Heard threw the bottle of vodka, the second bottle of vodka on me, which cut my upper finger and crushed the bones, it is where i started what i think is probably some kind of a breakdown, a nervous breakdown or something. ”
Depp said he then started writing on the mirrors and walls using the injured finger, saying he “didn’t want to live at the time.”
Ms. Wass said to Mr. Depp, “When you were in the kitchen yelling at Ms. Heard, you picked up the wall phone. ”
She stated that Mr. Depp had the phone in his right hand and that he “smashed it repeatedly against the wall”.
Mr. Depp replied, “It is possible. “
He added, “I remember ripping the phone off the wall. ”
Ms. Wass asked, “At this point, you were really, really angry, weren’t you?” ”
Depp said: “I had just lost my finger and as a musician – as a human being and as a musician – it is overwhelming. ”
Ms. Wass asked Mr. Depp to have previously told him that he was responsible for the loss of the top of her finger.
He said he said that to “protect Ms. Heard” when he had to tell the production company that he couldn’t work.
Ms. Heard previously denied having injured Mr. Depp’s finger, saying that he injured him by pulling the phone against the wall.
Ms. Wass stated that Ms. Heard fell into a “complete carnage state” in the house with Mr. Depp raising his injured hand and saying “Look what you made me do”. He said it was “incorrect”.
“Threatened by his career”
The hearing also focused on a drug treatment trip that Mr. Depp and Ms. Heard took on his private island in the Bahamas in August 2014.
The trip is one of 14 occasions when incidents of domestic violence, all denied by Mr. Depp, have allegedly taken place – and which NGN is using to defend against the actor’s libel suit.
During cross-examination, Mr. Depp was asked if he had “hit and pushed” Ms. Heard, to which he said, “I did not push Ms. Heard or assault him in any way. either, because I was certainly in no condition to do so. ”
He added that he “was in no physical condition to push anyone”.
The court heard medical notes suggesting that Ms. Heard believed that Mr. Depp was jealous of his professional work with another actor, James Franco.
She said that a doctor wrote, “JD [Johnny Depp] is very threatened by her career, especially by all kinds of romantic scenes that she has to do.
“His film with JF [James Franco] precipitated a frenzy that put JD in the hospital. Everyone around J [Johnny Depp] seems intimidated by his power and his money. No one stands up to him. ”
Depp said, “I think she was talking pork pies with her psychiatrist. “
Earlier, Ms. Wass read medical notes from Mr. Depp’s own doctor, David Kipper, who said that the actor “romances the whole drug culture and has no responsibility for his behavior.”
The doctor also wrote that Mr. Depp had given “words” to people like Sir Elton John “more for their celebrity than for their fight against sobriety”.
The case arose out of an article on the Sun’s website titled “Gone with the Pot: How JK Rowling Can Be” Really Happy “by Beating Wife Johnny Depp in New Fantastic Beasts ? ”
The Sun’s original article was about the actress’ allegations, married to the Pirates of the Caribbean star from 2015 to 2017.
