A Bristol city council spokesperson said, “This morning we removed the sculpture. “It will take place at our museum for the artist to collect or make a donation to our collection. “The statue, by artist Marc Quinn, was erected in a covert operation after being inspired by an image of protester Jen Reid standing on top of the pedestal during protests last month during which the Colston statue was knocked down.
The sculpture, titled A Surge of Power (Jen Reid) 2020, was installed without the knowledge or consent of Bristol City Council.
Bristol Mayor Marvin Rees tweeted on Wednesday: “I understand that people want to speak, but the statue was erected without permission.
“Everything that is placed on the base outside the process that we have put in place will have to be removed. “
