Iran sends black box of flight PS752 to France

Tehran, Iran – Iran has sent the black box of the Ukrainian passenger plane that its armed forces mistakenly shot down in January to France for reading, a semi-official Iranian news agency said on Saturday. Iran accidentally shot down the Boeing 737-800, killing all 176 people on board, after mistaking it for an incoming missile.

The Iranian armed forces were preparing for a counterattack after launching missiles at US bases in Iraq in response to the murder of its commander-in-chief, General Qassim Soleimani, in a US strike earlier in January.

ILNA report quotes Mohsen Baharvand, an assistant to the Iranian foreign minister, as saying the black box of the downed plane was transported to Paris on Friday, along with Iranian civil aviation and justice .

Baharvand also said the black box would be read in Paris on Monday.

Iran is conducting intense negotiations with Ukraine, Canada and other countries that had citizens on board the downed plane and who demanded a full investigation into the incident.

Fifty-five Canadian citizens and 30 permanent residents of Canada were among 176 people killed when flight PS752 was shot down.

Iran initially attributed the accident to technical problems and did not admit to having shot down the plane until a few days later.
