Iran launched missiles at a model of an American aircraft carrier in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The exercise included such heavy fire that the US military temporarily put two regional bases on alert.
The US Navy condemned Iran’s “irresponsible and reckless behavior”, calling it an attempt “to intimidate and coerce”.
The exercise comes at a time of heightened tension between Tehran and Washington in Gulf waters.
The exercises – named Prophet Mohammed 14 – were broadcast on public television.
The mockup – which looks like an aircraft carrier that the United States regularly navigates in the Gulf – is shown with dummy fighter jets on either side of its airstrip. Missiles are then launched from different angles, some of which target the aircraft carrier.
Another missile fired from a helicopter appears to hit the side of the fake warship.
“What was shown today in these exercises, at the level of the aerospace and naval forces, was quite offensive,” Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander Major General Hossein Salami said on TV. State.
Ballistic missile fire was detected and led to U.S. troops being put on alert in the UAE and Qatar, the U.S. military said.
“The US Navy conducts defensive exercises with our partners to promote maritime security in support of freedom of navigation; while Iran conducts offensive exercises, trying to intimidate and coerce, ”said Commander Rebecca Rebarich, spokesman for the Bahrain-based US Navy Fifth Fleet.
