Huawei will not be prevented from investing in France: The Mayor

PARIS – French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said on Tuesday that France would not ban Chinese Huawei from investing in the country, unlike Britain which decided to purge the company’s equipment from its 5G network by 2027.

The Mayor told France Info radio that there was “no general ban” on Huawei in France, but that sensitive places would be protected.

“We will not prohibit Huawei from investing in 5G, we will protect our national security interests,” Le Maire said, adding that he reaffirmed France’s position to Chinese authorities on Monday.

The Mayor nonetheless condemned China’s alleged abuses against the country’s Muslim minority population, saying they were “revolting and unacceptable”.
