Health Canada Approves Guelph Rapid COVID-19 Test


KITCHENER – Health Canada has approved the COVID-19 rapid test kits developed by a Guelph company. Precision Biomonitoring and Biomeme de Guelph, a Philadelphia company, typically work in DNA testing. Together, they developed a test for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. The mobile testing platform can provide results for up to nine samples in about an hour, the company said in a statement.

“This approval is the result of the dedication and commitment of our teams at Precision Biomonitoring and Biomeme, as well as the continued collaboration with our validation partners,” said Dr. Mario Thomas, CEO of Precision Biomonitoring, in a statement. Press. “This rapid test can now be distributed across Canada, particularly in remote areas and workplaces where the creation of virus-free areas is vital. We can now bring the laboratory to the sample. ”

Currently, people have to visit a test center and wait several days to get the results.

The SARS-CoV-2 real-time RT-PCR test will be rolled out across the country now that it is approved.

The approval is in line with the federal government’s plan to work with innovative companies to fight the pandemic, according to Precision Biomonitoring.

The company has said it wants to offer the testing platform to Indigenous communities in northern Ontario.
