The footage shows accused killer Tony “TJ” Wiggins, 26, speaking with victim Damion Tillman as he stood next to him in a line.
Sheriff Grady Judd said the store clerk overheard Tillman about his plans for an overnight fishing trip. The witness noted that Wiggins paid more attention when Tillman said Keven Springfield would also be fishing.
Police allege Wiggins, his girlfriend Mary Whittemore, 27, and his brother, 21, William “Robert” Wiggins, followed Tillman’s van to where the 23-year-old met Springfield, 30, and Brandon Rollins, 27. .
Judd said Robert Wiggins told police his brother jumped up and fired a gun at Tillman and Rollins, looking for Springfield. He then ran to the other van, pointed a gun at Springfield and asked, “Where’s my truck?” Judd said Wiggins accused Springfield of selling his truck’s engine.
When Springfield said he didn’t know what TJ Wiggins was talking about, Wiggins reportedly started hitting him and then shooting all three.
The younger Wiggins told police he never left their vehicle until his brother asked him to help put Tillman’s body in the back of one of the trucks.
The brothers and Whittemore then left, stripped the gun and threw it away. They then ordered 10 double cheeseburgers and two McChicken sandwiches from McDonald’s.
Tips led police to trailers in which the trio lived “off the grid” without running water or electricity. A search warrant revealed envelopes from the murder weapon.
Whittemore told cops she bought the ammunition the week before, Judd said.
TJ Wiggins has 230 crimes on his record with 15 convictions and two stays in state prison.
“He’s a thug,” Judd said. “He’s a criminal. He is purely evil in the flesh. He’s wild and out of control.
TJ Wiggins is charged with first degree murder, tampering with evidence, convict possession of a firearm and convict possession of ammunition.
The younger Wiggins is accused of tampering with evidence and props after the capital crime. Whittemore is charged with incidental afterthought.
