Hall’s agent: contract negotiations plan still to be awaited end of season

As the NHL nears recovery, an off season like no other awaits teams once the Stanley Cup is awarded.

Among those waiting free agents, Arizona Coyotes star Taylor Hall is arguably the best forward of the crop.

Last week, Hall had dinner with Coyotes owner Alex Meruelo, his son, Alex Jr., and new COO Xavier Gutierrez, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman. General Manager John Chayka was not present. The team declined to comment on the meeting.

“The plan was from the start to wait until the end of the season to start negotiations, and that’s still the plan,” Hall’s agent Darren Ferris told Friedman.

Ferris did not comment on the meeting itself, or whether any offers were made.

Craig Custance’s The Athletic was the first to report on the meeting, saying it seemed Gutierrez was the turning point in the alleged negotiations, not Chayka.

In April, Ferris said the Coyotes had yet to make a contract offer for his client – echoing a statement Chayka made in March.

The Coyotes acquired Hall from the New Jersey Devils in a December blockbuster, in a bid to make a playoff push.
