We’ve all been friends for a long time, so I feel comfortable enough to confide that I’m absolutely buzzing about it. I love these two teams – their way of playing, their way of competing, their way of being – and today, after light teasing and very appreciated caresses, we are going to the end.England is in a bit of a situation. Ben Stokes probably should have aligned, and maybe should have chosen Stuart Broad. By opting for the bat, he gave the West Indies the best of bowling conditions, and by omitting Broad, he deprived himself of an all-time expert to take advantage of it during this crucial session last night. However, the weather is better today, so it is not difficult to run a line as England will be better with Jofra Archer and Mark Wood.
The West Indies know they can take control of this game today. Given the variable rebound that we are already seeing, it is likely that they will need a decent first round lead to win. A glance at their team sheet does not make it obvious where it comes from, but a great partnership – a substantial coup, even – and they will be there. It will be very good.
