The Bears have lost a key player in their defense over concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bears defensive tackle Eddie Goldman has informed the team of his intention to retire, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The report says Goldman has health issues, which may mean he has a medical need and will receive a stipend of $ 350,000. Players who retire without medical necessity receive an allowance of $ 150,000. Goldman has a fully guaranteed base salary of $ 4.75 million this season, which will now become his salary for next season. He will have to repay his allowance next year.
A second-round pick in the 2015 draft, Goldman has become one of the Bears’ most important defenders, and he will be missed in 2020.
