In an interview with talkSPORT, Drew McIntyre explained how he played a big part in Heath Slater’s return to WWE, and how he wanted his character to be flawed. The highlights are below. On how he played a big part in Heath Slater’s surprise return to WWE: “The time at the end was very special and I insisted that this idea come true. I think I saw something on the Internet saying I was behind and I wonder how they get this information ?! But yes, I played a big part in getting there and to be honest, Heath was a little against it and I spoke to my wife just before the phone call I made to Heath to try to convince him to come on the show for the segment. It reminded me of how I felt when I was released and of course he felt the same. He appreciated the opportunity with WWE, that’s where he made his name, but mentally, he evolved. He is ready for the next step and he is not sure to go back, so I said to him clearly, “Trust me, it will be like nothing you have done.”

On how important it is for him that his character shows flaws: “It really helped mine and the history of Dolph. I know, obviously, I’m supposed to be a good guy so it’s not ideal in many ways to say that I was a bad friend. But, the way I see it with my character is, especially given the environment in which we are, we can tell a more complex story. In an arena, I would have been booed to pieces for being such a terrible friend, but in this environment, I think it is important to show that my character is defective, because I am. As [John] Cena is Superman and Roman can be bulletproof most of the time, but I think Drew McIntyre is Drew Galloway. I am an imperfect person and Dolph tried to put me in a difficult situation, perhaps showing that I have not been as attentive to my friend as I should have been in front of the world. It shows that I am a human being, you saw it on my face. You saw Drew Galloway. It’s like I feel really bad here. I’ll give you what you want, “and at the end of our meeting, we got over Dolph and I think it’s important for my character to show these flaws. “
