Hamilton has not skated since leaving practice early last Wednesday with an undisclosed illness.
The 27-year-old missed time in the regular season with a breakup but was back with the squad as they prepared for their play-in streak with the New York Rangers. He has 14 goals and 26 assists in 47 games for the Hurricanes this season.
“He’s a talented player and very unique offensively,” Brind’Amour said last week in Hamilton. “He’s definitely been missed when he’s been away for much of the year and he’s a big part of our team’s offense, so obviously we’re hoping it’s not something long-term.
Carolina will play its only exhibition game against the Washington Capitals on Wednesday and open its play-in streak on Saturday.
