Dougie Hamilton of the Carolina Hurricanes still unable to participate

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Dougie Hamilton remains unfit to participate, head coach Rod Brind’Amour said Monday.

Hamilton has not skated since leaving practice early last Wednesday with an undisclosed illness.

The 27-year-old missed time in the regular season with a breakup but was back with the squad as they prepared for their play-in streak with the New York Rangers. He has 14 goals and 26 assists in 47 games for the Hurricanes this season.

“He’s a talented player and very unique offensively,” Brind’Amour said last week in Hamilton. “He’s definitely been missed when he’s been away for much of the year and he’s a big part of our team’s offense, so obviously we’re hoping it’s not something long-term.

Carolina will play its only exhibition game against the Washington Capitals on Wednesday and open its play-in streak on Saturday.
