Jordan Zimmermann may have pitched his final pitch for the Detroit Tigers.
On Saturday afternoon, manager Ron Gardenhire announced that Zimmermann had been placed on the 45-day injured list with a strain on his right forearm, Gardenhire said.
Zimmermann, whose contract expires after this season, was experiencing forearm pain ahead of Friday night’s intrasquad game and did not make his scheduled departure.
He will rehabilitate the injury, without undergoing surgery, Gardenhire said.

“He understands everything we do here,” said Gardenhire. “We had conversations with him. It’s not exactly what he would like, but he understands the problems we have with the short season and trying to put together this list. ”

Gardenhire said the Tigers are hopeful Zimmermann can return to the mound before the end of the season.
“Somewhere on the road, maybe at the end, I think he wants to show people that he can present. But he has a road ahead of him, trying to stay in shape. ”
Zimmermann, 34, signed a $ 110 million, five-year contract with the Tigers before the 2016 season.
