Desmond Howard shows bitterness for the independence of Notre-Dame

I put as much stock in everything Desmond Howard has to say about Notre Dame as when Mark May talked about it years ago on ESPN.I don’t have proof, but I’m pretty sure the 1991 Heisman Trophy winner never really said anything nice about Notre Dame.

This was again the case on Friday morning when Howard was part of an ESPN panel that discussed what would happen with the college football season if the off-conference games were generally canceled.

Of course, Our Lady has grown up and of course, Howard has thought about it.

“I may not be the best guy to ask this question because I always felt that Notre Dame always received this special pass and they just appreciate this independence, and they never had to join a conference »

« So now, if this ends up being a situation in which we have a season and according to the guidelines, people are now talking about where there are only people who will play within their conference, and they are left out because decisions they made, never to join the conference when they had the opportunity to join the ACC, so I think that’s their problem. It just comes down to biting them in the ass. So I have no problem with a team or a school that thought it was beyond joining the conference, and now because the teams are playing within their conference, they are left out. – Desmond Howard on ESPN – July 10, 2020

Just a kind reminder to Mr. Howard that Notre Dame has been trying to attend a conference for years and years, but it was your beloved University of Michigan that prevented this from happening. Then Notre Dame became a money-making machine in college football and Michigan and the Big Ten suddenly wanted them.

I am not going to lie, I feel great pleasure when the independence of Notre-Dame angered the masses as it did, will continue to do so for years and years to come.
