Patrick Mahomes sent shockwaves to the world of sports Monday afternoon as the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback accepted an estimated 10-year mega-extension worth $ 503 million.

The smuggler’s lucrative and well-deserved affair caught the attention of several NFL players, including two Redskins: quarterback Dwayne Haskins and cornerback Kendall Fuller.

Haskins, a quarterback who ultimately hopes for a big salary himself, questioned the language of the Mahomes agreement and whether his annual salary was tied to the salary cap.

However, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Mahomes deal is worth $ 503 million over that period and do not linked to the team’s annual number of caps.

As Schefter mentioned, the Mahomes deal was unprecedented because it is the richest in the history of the sport. Before Mahomes’ expansion, most of the most important contracts in the sport came from Major League Baseball, a league that has no salary cap. Over the past few seasons, we’ve seen MLB stars Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, Manny Machado and Gerrit Cole sign deals in excess of $ 300 million.

So when the Redskins ‘cornerback Kendall Fuller saw Mahomes’ new contract, seeing his former teammate ink much more than these MLB stars is what he immediately thought.

Mahomes himself has experience in baseball; his father was a pitcher for the Minnesota Twins and a handful of other teams. The quarterback was also a baseball player himself and was selected in the 2014 MLB draft. Of course, he did not sign, but played two seasons of college baseball at Texas Tech before focusing fully on football.

After the contract he signed MOnday, Mahomes can ensure that he made the right decision by sticking to football.
