Coronavirus: United States sets one-day record with 60,000 new cases of COVID-19 – National


The United States reported more than 60,000 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, the largest increase ever reported by a country in a single day, according to a Reuters report.The United States is facing a dark summer with record infections and many states have been forced to shut down parts of the economy again, leaving some workers without wages.

In addition to nearly 10,000 new cases in Florida, Texas has reported more than 9,500 cases and California has reported more than 8,500 new infections. California and Texas have also reported a record one-day increase in deaths.

It is the second day in a row that deaths in the United States have increased by more than 900 in one day, the highest levels seen since early June, according to the count.

Tennessee, West Virginia and Utah have all recorded record daily increases in new cases, and infections are increasing in 42 of 50 states, according to a Reuters analysis of cases in the past two weeks compared to the previous two weeks.

The US count rose to 60,020 on Wednesday evening, and some local governments have yet to report.

The previous US record for new one-day cases was 56,818 last Friday. The United States has reported more than 3 million cases and 132,000 deaths from the virus, putting President Donald Trump’s pandemic strategy under surveillance.

Globally, cases reached more than 12 million on Wednesday, with 546,000 deaths.
