Coronavirus crisis could become “worse and worse and worse and worse”, warns WHO

The raging coronavirus pandemic has the potential to get worse if countries do not take basic health precautions, warned the head of the World Health Organization (WHO).

“Let me be frank, too many countries are going in the wrong direction, the virus remains the number one public enemy,” said managing director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

“If the basic principles are not respected, the only way this pandemic will go is that it will get worse and worse. But it should not be so. “

The United States and Brazil are the most affected countries.

“There will be no return to the old normal for the foreseeable future … There is cause for concern,” added Tedros, in some of his most vivid comments in recent weeks.

WHO reported a record daily increase in global coronavirus cases on Saturday, a total increase of 228,102 in 24 hours, with the largest increases in the United States, Brazil, India and South Africa.

Deaths have remained stable at around 5,000 people.

Coronavirus cases worldwide exceed 12.3 million, according to Johns Hopkins University, and 556,383 people died in seven months.
