“This afternoon, we saw an outage in some parts of our network. It was not the result of an attack, “the company said in a blog post. “A fix has been implemented and we are monitoring the results.”
The problems affected 12 data centers in the United States and Europe, according to Cloudflare. Several online businesses, including digital storefront operator Shopify Inc., have reported disruption.
The outage even had an impact on Downdetector.com, a service supposed to report problems with websites on the Web.
“What turned out to be a problem at Cloudflare has destroyed a large number of websites and online services,” said Ookla, owner of Downdetector, in a blog article. “Downdetector was also briefly affected by the Cloudfare outage, during which users in the US and Europe were unable to access the site.”
