California, Florida and Texas report record average daily deaths

President Donald Trump continues to publicly tout the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine as a Covid-19 treatment, despite scientific research that has shown no benefit of the drug for coronavirus patients. Nationwide, cases continue to rise by the tens of thousands, and the United States is reporting nearly 1,000 deaths, on average, every day. California, Florida, Texas and several other hard-hit states recorded a record average death toll this week.

The following data was compiled by Johns Hopkins University:

  • Global cases: over 16.7 million
  • Deaths worldwide: at least 660,881
  • US cases: over 4.36 million
  • Deaths in the United States: at least 149,375
