Blackhawks add Wisconsin defender Wyatt Kalynuk to figure skating – The Athletic


The blue line has been the site of the Blackhawks’ most glaring weakness in recent years. It is also the site of their biggest blocking of players. Brent Seabrook is signed until 2023-24, Duncan Keith is signed until 2022-2023 and Connor Murphy, Calvin de Haan and Olli Maatta are signed until 2021-2022. Adam Boqvist, the eighth overall pick in 2018, is anything but cemented in NHL training. Lucas Carlsson, 23, was very promising when he made his first appearance in the NHL earlier in the season. Ian Mitchell, 21, has signed on and will join the mix next season. Another 2018 first rounder, Nicolas Beaudin, made his NHL debut in March. Then there are Slater Koekkoek, Dennis Gilbert, Alec Regula and Nick Seeler. Even if the Blackhawks buy the Maatta contract to help stay under the flat ceiling made necessary by the pandemic, they have no shortage of NHL-proven and apparently NHL-ready options.
